David Akin is a Christian concert artist and worship leader from Fayetteville, GA.

I am so thankful that I was raised in a Christian home and found Jesus at the age of seven. Our whole family loved Gospel music. We sang in our little country church, and many times we would get together after church at Aunt Brenda’s house to sing for another couple of hours. I was very young, but I will never forget those beautiful old songs, the hymns, and the harmony that flowed from Aunt Brenda’s living room.

Growing up, I loved my church and sang specials whenever I could. I started piano lessons in the first grade, and my granddad bought my first guitar around the fifth grade. That same year, I began to write my first songs. In the ninth grade, I had a chorus teacher who was a member of a Gospel quartet called “The New Gospel Travelers.” I sang and played bass guitar with them and learned so much. I even got invited to play on a Gospel TV show, where I was honored to meet many Gospel artists, including my all-time favorite, “The Rex Nelon Singers.” Later on, I was so blessed to travel and play lead guitar for this wonderful singing group. They were such a blessing to my life.

Eventually, I came off the road. My mom and dad had joined a new church, so I went with them. It was there that I met the girl of my dreams, who is now my wife, Lagene. We have just celebrated 46 years of marriage. We are blessed with three sons, three precious daughters-in-law, and 12 precious grandchildren.

Thirty-nine years ago, on a Wednesday night, while leading praise music on the piano at a prayer meeting, God spoke to me. He led me to quit my job of almost ten years to follow a calling to full-time music ministry. I answered God’s call and stepped out by faith. For the first several years, I led a solo ministry doing concerts and revivals and working with other preaching evangelists.

During that time, I began to miss my wife and three little boys. I realized that if I won the whole world to Jesus but dropped the ball with my wife and sons, I would have failed at the most important thing God put me on this earth to accomplish. One night alone in a hotel room, with tears in my eyes, I asked God to give my family something we could do together to make a difference in this world.

Almost immediately, my boys began to love singing and learned to play multiple musical instruments. My wife, Lagene, traveled the country by my side to help take care of them. I could see God answering my prayers every day. For many years, our family, “The Akins,” traveled around the country singing and preaching the good news of Jesus Christ together. God has truly blessed us with a talented, wonderful family, and it will be a legacy I cherish for eternity.

Today, my oldest son, Davey, lives in Viera, Florida, and will soon be completing his seminary degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.  My middle son, Nick, is a Christian music artist and worship leader with his own family music ministry. My youngest son, Eli, runs an outreach ministry called M25 Barbecue, feeding those in desperate situations and helping churches reach their communities for Christ. He also serves as a worship pastor at McDonough Road Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Georgia. We all love getting together every August for a reunion concert.

Now, as my family has expanded into new ministries of their own, I have begun a senior adult concert ministry. I am not only writing new songs but also planning to re-release many of my older songs that people have loved so much through the years.

God has been so good to me. I am truly blessed.

MISSION STATEMENT:

It is my desire that all who sit under the sound of my ministry will experience the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, from the first note or word until the last. I pray that every song, testimony, story, and message will bring honor and glory to His precious name. I believe that music is a powerful way to draw people to the only One who can change and fulfill their lives. In Psalm 100 the psalmist, David, tells us to “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before His presence with singing.” My prayer is that every song I sing will always bring the listener into His holy presence because I believe, with all that is within me, that Jesus is the only true hope, happiness, peace, joy, and love that we can ever hold onto in this world. He’s the only one who can fix us, therefore as long as I have a voice I will praise Him.
